Dr. Melody Ashworth, C.Psych.
Psychologist
Dr. Melody Ashworth is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and provides psychological services to children, adolescents, parents, and families. She has dual registration in Child and Adolescent Psychology and School Psychology. Dr. Ashworth helps families navigate the journey of childhood to emerging adulthood. She provides assessment and treatment to children, adolescents, parents and families experiencing difficulties, such as anxiety, depression, anger, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, difficulties with emotion regulation, learning disabilities, trauma, attachment or interpersonal difficulties and adverse childhood experiences (e.g., parental divorce, illness, loss).
Helping families better understand how temperament, emotions, thoughts, attachment history, and life events impact their child/adolescent’s functioning is central to her clinical formulation. Dr. Ashworth draws on a range of evidence-based treatments (e.g., attachment, family systems, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy, emotion-focused, and acceptance and commitment therapy) and flexibly integrates these approaches to meet the specific needs of her clients. For younger children, she uses creative, play-based, developmentally appropriate techniques.
Dr. Ashworth’s clinical approach incorporates compassion, patience, collaboration, creativity, and a healthy dose of humour to help clients fully engage in the process. She enjoys connecting with families, getting to know children and teens, and helping them find a path that works for them during challenging times.
Dr. Ashworth graduated with her Ph.D. in Clinical and School Psychology from the University of Toronto in 2014 and completed her residency at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre (now SickKids Centre for Community Mental Health). Dr. Ashworth trained and worked at Surrey Place Centre for 6 years with children and adolescents with a range of neurodevelopmental conditions. She also was a school psychologist at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) for 9 years, giving her a solid foundation in the interplay between psychological and educational systems and conducting comprehensive psychoeducational assessments. For the past decade, The Willow Centre has been her clinical home where she has honed her skills in psychodynamic and attachment-informed approaches to psychological distress.
Dr. Melody Ashworth provides in-person services at Wonderwise on Wednesdays and Fridays. Virtual therapeutic services are also available, when appropriate.
